Description

A San Diego based Construction Company with operations throughout Southern California currently has an opening for a Full Time SAFETY ADVISOR, in its Lakeside, California Division.

JOB DUTIES:

The duties for this position will include and not limited to;

  • Conduct regular inspections of construction sites to identify potential safety hazards, such as unsafe working conditions, equipment malfunctions, or environmental risks.
  • Perform risk assessments to evaluate potential dangers and develop strategies to minimize or eliminate hazards.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations, as well as industry specific standards and best practices.
  • Emphasize employee engagement and foster a continuous improvement environment.
  • Monitors and controls company's safety standards in accordance with OSHA and state regulations.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive safety policies, procedures, and protocols for construction sites.
  • Provide guidance to project teams and construction personnel on safety-related matters.
  • Review and update safety manuals and documentations to reflect changes in regulations or company policies.
  • Conduct safety training sessions and workshops for construction workers and project staff.
  • Ensure that all personnel receive appropriate safety training and certifications.
  • Promote awareness of safety practices and encourage safety-conscious work culture.  
  • Investigate accidents, incidents and near-miss events to determine the root causes and develop preventive measures. 
  • Prepare detailed incident reports, including documentation of findings, recommendations, and corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with management and project teams to implement corrective measures and prevent recurrence. 
  • Provide expert advice and guidance to project teams, contractors, and subcontractors on safety-related matters. 
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to develop and communicate safety strategies, goals, and initiatives. 
  • Facilitate regular safety meetings and toolbox talks to address specific safety concerns and promote continuous improvement.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of safety programs and procedures on construction sites.
  • Conduct regular audits and inspections to ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Recommend and implerment improvements to enhance safety performance and mitigate risks. 
  • Other duties as assigned 

SPECIAL SKILLS OR REQUIREMENTS:

Qualified candidates must possess the following special skills and or requirements to be considered for this position.

 
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Construction Management, or a related field (preferred)
  • Relevant certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), or Occupations Health and Safety Technician (OHST). 
  • In-depth knowledge of construction safety regulations, codes, and best practices. 
  • Strong understanding of construction processes and associated hazards.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively with project teams, contractors, and regulatory authorities.
  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities. 
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to upholding high safety standards.
  • Proficiency in using safety management software and tools.
  • Experience in conducting safety inspections, incident investigations, and delivering safety training. 
  • Ability to work independently and complete daily activities according to work schedule.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects 20-50 lbs. on a regular basis, walk and stand for long periods of time and perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions.
  • Prior natural gas pipeline experience is a plus.
  • Must have clean driving record.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screening.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Construction Management, or a related field (preferred)
  • Relevant certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), or Occupations Health and Safety Technician (OHST). 
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in Underground Construction work
