Description

A San Diego based Construction Company with operations throughout Southern California currently has openings for Full Time DIRECTIONAL BORING OPERATOR & LOCATOR, for its San Diego, California Division to perform various tasks related to the Operations Division.

Job Duties:

The duties for this position will include and not be limited to performing physical labor for Underground Construction;

The Directional Boring Operator & Locator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of directional drilling equipment to install underground utilities within civil work. Performs related duties as required.
  • Operate directional boring equipment, including horizontal directions drill (HDD) and related machinery.
  • Set up and maintain drilling equipment to ensure proper functioning.
  • Monitor drilling parameters and make necessary adjustments to maintain accuracy and safety.
  • Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on drilling equipment.
  • Use utility locating equipment, such as ground-penetrating radar, electromagnetic locators, and utility maps, to accurately identify the location of existing underground utilities.
  • Mark and flag the paths of utilities, ensuring that they are clearly visible to all team members.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to prevent accidents and injuries during operations.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, including OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) standards.
  • Conduct pre-operation safety checks and inspections of equipment.
  • Communicate drilling progress, challenges, and any issues to related utility locations to the project manager or supervisor.
  • Coordinate with other team members, including laborers and supervisors, to ensure effective teamwork.
  • Maintain accurate records of drilling operations, utility locations, and equipment maintenance. 
  • Complete necessary paperwork and reports as required by the project and headquarters.
  • Implement measures to minimize environmental impact, such as controlling drilling fluid spills and disposing of waste responsibly.

Special Skills or Requirements:

Qualified candidates must possess the following special skills and or requirements to be considered for this position.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certification or training in directional drilling operations and utility locating.
  • 3-5 years operating directional boring equipment and utility locating equipment.
  • Strong knowledge of underground utility systems and construction techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret maps and blueprints.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills. 
  • Must successfully pass pre-employment drug screen.
  • In union or must be willing to join the local Labor Union this position is covered under.
  • Some knowledge of first aid.
  • Physical fitness and the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects 50-60 lbs. on a regular basis, walk and stand for long periods of time and perform physical labor under adverse field conditions.
  • Valid driver's license with clean driving record. 
  • May require some out of state travel for equipment training.

Education and/or Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certification or training in directional drilling operations and utility locating.
  • 3-5 years operating directional boring equipment and utility locating equipment.

SALARY:

Salary range
